SECOND SKIN | TATTOO AFTERCARE

Updated: May 21

How to take care of your new tattoo

  • Leave the second skin on for 3 days (you can shower with it, no problem).

  • While your tattoo is healing, avoid direct sunlight.

  • Your tattoo might appear blurry underneath the second skin; don't worry, it's because the wound water and ink are mixing. You will have a nice, clean tattoo after you remove the second skin.

  • After 3 days, take off the second skin; it works best with lukewarm water (while showering).

  • Wash the tattoo gently, let it air dry, and then use wound healing ointment (Bepanthen, Panthenol works best for me).

  • Apply ointments multiple times a day in thin layers rather than applying a thick layer of ointment all at once.

  • Keep your tattoo moisturized.

  • VERY IMPORTANT: Always wash your hands before treating your fresh tattoo.

  • Depending on placement, avoid clothes that potentially rub on your fresh tattoo; that might lead to healing irritations.

  • No sports, sauna, ocean, or pools for the time you have the second skin on; avoid these activities for at least a week (you know your body best, so treat it consciously and you'll be fine).

  • In case you have the urge to do the "forbidden things" anyways, clean your skin afterward and take good care for a good healing result. 50% of the tattoo's long-term appearance lies on you.

  • If your second skin falls off before, don't worry, just keep your tattoo free from dirt, dust, and any other harming substance, and continue with step 3.

For good results in the long run, always keep your skin moisturized, avoid sun exposure without protection, and stay hydrated.
