How to choose your first tattoo (without regret)

Updated: Mar 24

How to choose your first tattoo? So, we’ve all been there.

Thinking for weeks, months, or even years about that one thing everyone seems to have… but not you...

A TATTOOOO!!!!

You finally feel brave enough, spend hours thinking about the perfect design, book an appointment… and then suddenly you’re like:“Maybe it’s not the right thing?”

Totally normal. It happens to many of us. So here’s my advice on how to go through the process without regrets:

Choose a tattoo artist who makes you feel seen and respected.

Share your thoughts and ideas. Pay attention to how they respond—do you feel listened to? Are they taking your ideas seriously, or just pushing their own agenda?

You should never feel weird, small, or like you’re talking to someone “above you.”This connection is your number one priority. No matter what.

If the vibe is right. JACKPOT!

Finding someone who matches your expectations isn’t easy.So don’t be afraid to reach out to multiple artists. See if and how they respond. That tells you a lot already.

Will this be your first and last tattoo?

Probably not. 😉

For many people, the first one is the hardest—but also the beginning of something great. It takes courage, yes. But it opens the door to a whole world of self-expression.

Start with a spot that’s just for you—not necessarily visible to others.Somewhere like behind the upper arm or on the leg.It helps you ease into the tattooed life without pressure.

Take your time to choose the first tattoo.

Before you go all in with a big memorial piece, coordinates, or a full sleeve in your twenties, just remember, your taste will evolve.Explore styles. Learn what’s out there. Let your life shape your tattoos, not the rush.

Your body can be your diary.

Travel, friendship, love, loss, passion, if a moment feels worth remembering, mark it. But do it with intention.

Ready?
